Paul Andersen and Paul Preissner to curate the US Pavilion Exhibition at the 17th International Architecture Biennale in Venice

The U.S. Department of State has selected the University of Illinois at Chicago to organize the exhibition of the United States Pavilion in the 2020 Venice Architecture Biennale with Paul Andersen and Paul Preissner to be curators. Titled American Framing, the exhibition will reinvent the 1930’s US Pavilion by completing Delano and Aldrich’s aspirational American Palladian project with a work of ubiquitous domestic architecture. It will explore the histories, labors, forms, and consequences of this form of architectural construction. The curators proposed the theme in response to the question presented by Hashim Sarkis, the Artistic Director of the 2020 Biennale: “How will we live together?” The Bienniale will be on view from May 23rd to November 29, 2020.

Paul Andersen is director of Independent Architecture and Clinical Associate Professor of Architecture at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Paul Preissner is an Associate Professor of Architecture at the University of Illinois at Chicago and runs Paul Preissner Architects.
